Israel: The Highest Quality Falafels & The Lowest Burger Restaurant on Earth…

Posted in Travels by Stefan

This was my first time in Israel. The first destination was Haifa, which despite the media’s portrayal of Israel, seemed like a pretty regular place with few obvious reminders of the ongoing turmoil that surrounds it. Haifa is well known for its diverse and harmonious population and, most importantly (for me that is), its fine falafels…So, we ate plentyFalafel eater of those. Then we went on briefly to Tel Aviv - a vibrant city with impressive corporate towers and a sweeping coastline.
Then finally on to the Dead Sea. Leonora and I decided that she should drive and I would navigate, since she has driven a lot in Israel before, and reading a map can’t be that difficult, can it? Well…, my not so good map reading almost directed us towards the West Bank, rather than the Dead Sea…….

Also, we had to watch out for camels trying to cross the road, on our gradual descent to what is at 400 metres below sea level, the lowest point on earth. It’s hard not to float in the dead sea, especially if you have been eating far too many falafels over the past few days. What’s more we made a point of visiting that most opportunist of touristtoo many falafels attractions - ‘The Lowest Burger Restaurant on Earth’, for a quick burger top up, before dipping into the saline water. Once in, it seemed virtually impossible to even touch my feet on the sea floor, they just kept bobbing on the surface. I just bobbed up and down for half an hour, staying afloat with no effort…. conclusive proof that the burger + falafels were a good idea…
So, does anyone know a good Falafel recipe???
